Walk 9, Parley Cross - Chapel Lane - Tricketts Cross - Ferndown Golf Course - Lone Pine Drive - Parley Cross (approx 7 miles)
Park your car near Parley Sports Club in Stocks Lane (by the blue horseshoe on the map) just past the Memorial Hall off Christchurch Road East. Walk back to Christchurch Road and walk towards the airport for 800 yards past Bournemouth Sports Club grounds to Chapel Lane.
Just before the right turn into Chapel Lane there is a stile leading to a footpath which leads to Palmer's Ford (at Tricketts Cross). Take this footpath rather than walk along the road with its heavy industrial traffic. The footpath runs alongside the road until you reach the crossroads opposite the Eco Compost depot. Turn left at this point and pass the Fencing Centre on your left and then a modern house before setting off along a wide gravel track.
This track, over which industrial vehicles travel, leads past vast fields of new turf, stretching as far you can see and eventually arrives at a Sewerage treatment plant near to Tricketts Cross. At this point the track turns westwards, but the footpath becomes very narrow and goes straight on in line with the road you have covered. Follow the footpath with the sewerage works on your left past Palmers Ford, and take the next footpath on your left 200 yards from the houses ahead of you. This junction is almost immediately below a HT Electricity line of Pylons.
Follow the path below the pylons in a southerly direction. In about 300 yards a sandy track goes off to the right. Follow this track for 100 yards until you meet another track going off to the west (FP Signpost Red arrow). In 100 yards or so at the highest point on the track (another Red arrow), veer right and then left along the track (red arrow on post). Further along this track you will see Ferndown Golf Course ahead of you, surrounded by a new wire fence.
Follow the tracks which will gradually take you to this fence in about 400 yards via a footbridge. Walk along the footpath adjacent to the wire fence until you come to the corner of the Ferndown Golf Course. The track makes a gradual turn until it returns to run alongside the wire fence. There are marker posts with a red arrow every 50 yards until you arrive at a gate where you enter a long narrow field. Walk along the field keeping to the left side fence for 200 yards to the exit gate.
Turn right along the path which leads within 100 yards to Lone Pine Drive. Walk straight on into Lone Pine Drive and take the second turn on the left into Danes Drive.
Turn into Danes Drive and follow it to its end (approx 400 yards). Turn right into Lone Pine Drive and walk for 200 yards until you reach a mini-roundabout at the junction with Golf Links Rd. Turn left and walk to New Road (200 yards).
Walk down New Road on the left side of the road passing St Mark's Church and in a further 200 yards Oaklands Walk. Turn into Oaklands Walk and walk the length of the road. At the end of the road join a footpath which leads to Christchurch Rd, passing the Sports Club Car Park.
